Assessing the Catalyst and the Barriers to Rural Community Based Telecentre Usage
نویسنده
چکیده
The success of telecentre implementation along the developing countries depends largely on identifying the factors that may spur or hinder users’ acceptance and use. The federal government in Nigeria projected that by the end of the year 2011; telecentre would be established in the entire country. However, despite this projection, limited empirical studies were conducted regarding the acceptance and use of telecentre in various communities in Nigeria. This research aimed at assessing the catalyst and obstacles regarding the telecentre usage. A total of 313 questionnaires were retrieved from the adopters and non adopters of telecentre in two communities of North East Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria. The finding shows positive correlation between the awareness of telecentre services with usage. Also, from the findings, the major barrier to the effective use of telecentre was attributed to the lack of awareness of services offered by the telecentre.
